AS MAGA REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS THREATEN DEFAULT AND OUR CLEAN ENERGY BOOM, BIDEN’S CLEAN ENERGY PLAN IS UPLIFTING COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Washington, D.C. – Last year during Earth Week, Climate Power and partners mobilized to push Congress to pass climate legislation that meets the moment of the climate crisis. And now, on the 52nd anniversary of Earth Week, we’re over six months since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the boldest and strongest investment in climate and our clean energy future. MAGA extremists in Congress have chosen this moment to threaten to force the United States to default if they are not allowed to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act and stop the American clean energy economic boom.

The Biden administration’s clean energy plan is incentivizing clean energy job growth—creating a manufacturing boom. According to Climate Power’s latest Clean Energy Boom report, clean energy projects in 41 states have announced and advanced 142,016 new jobs since August 16th, 2022. The 190+ new clean energy projects nationwide total $242.81 billion in investments, creating economic growth in communities across the country.

Thanks to the Biden administration’s clean energy plan, communities across the country are becoming more resilient against the worsening impacts of climate change, and our clean energy economy is employing working Americans like never before.

“Only Congress’ MAGA extremists would choose Earth Week to hold the global economy hostage and threaten to force our country into default if they aren’t able to inflict their big oil driven agenda. Now, they’re trying to repeal our nation’s affordable clean energy plan that has helped create more than 140,000 clean energy jobs all across the U.S.,” said Lori Lodes, Executive Director of Climate Power. “Thanks to President Biden’s clean energy plan, we’re seeing more and more clean energy projects break ground—providing opportunities to working class Americans like never before. Small towns and big cities across the country have become a part of the Made in America clean energy supply chain. These investments are paving the way for historic cuts in emissions and a liveable planet for future generations. Republicans want to stop all that—even though their communities stand to benefit the most from our American-made clean energy economic boom. The extreme MAGA agenda must be stopped.”
