Climate and Progressive Groups Ramp Up Campaign to Educate About the Benefits of the “Climate Law”

Campaign Spotlights Impact of Historic Climate Action in the Inflation Reduction Act

Washington, DC — Today, Climate Power announced it is ramping up its campaign to educate voters about the Inflation Reduction Act’s climate benefits in partnership with League of Conservation Voters (LCV), Black Progressive Action Coalition, Somos Votantes, and the NRDC Action Fund. A new $10 million advertising program kicks-off the multi-year campaign that also includes in-state actions and events to tout the Climate Law’s historic investments to create clean energy jobs, lower costs and take on climate change.

“With the most significant climate and clean energy investments in history, the Inflation Reduction Act is the Climate Law we’ve been waiting for,” said Lori Lodes, Climate Power Executive Director. “President Biden delivered for the American people with this law that will reduce pollution, lower energy costs and create millions of good paying jobs. Now, it’s time to make sure that people understand how the law will positively impact their lives and how its success must pave the way for more action to come.”

“The Inflation Reduction Act is a historic, popular law that will directly improve the lives of children and families across the U.S. – but the truth is that most people don’t know what it is yet,” said Pete Maysmith, Senior Vice President of Campaigns. “As influential advocacy organizations, we have an obligation to help educate the public about this cost-saving, job-creating, climate change-addressing law and help folks understand how they personally stand to benefit.”

“Historically, communities of color have often been left out of conversations about combating climate change, the good jobs created as a means of protecting our natural resources, and decreasing energy costs,” said Adrianne Shropshire, Executive Director of Black Progressive Action Coalition. “The provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act provide real climate investment at a time when it is greatly needed, and we look forward to creating awareness to ensure the progress is felt in the communities that would benefit the most.”

“Working people, especially people of color, continue to do their part to address climate change while facing the worst of its consequences,” said Melissa Morales, Founder and President of Somos Votantes. “The Inflation Reduction Act finally delivers real relief by ramping up clean energy while lowering costs, creating millions of good paying, quality jobs and providing working people with the opportunities they need to build a better life for their families. And now, we get to celebrate the most important climate law of our generation.”

“The Inflation Reduction Act is going to make a real difference in people’s lives, from lowering their energy bills to making it easier to afford an electric vehicle,” said Kevin S. Curtis, Executive Director of the NRDC Action Fund. “It will mean new job opportunities, less pollution and more affordable prescription drugs for millions of Americans. It’s important that they understand President Biden is keeping his promise to deliver a more hopeful future when it comes to the climate crisis.”

The new, 12 week $10 million ad campaign will target young people and communities of color in AZ, GA, MI, NV, PA, WI, NM, NH and the Los Angeles DMA on streaming services and social media platforms to demonstrate how the Inflation Reduction Act will make a real difference in their lives. Additionally, Climate Power will host events over the next several months with leaders in key states across the country including Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire.

In the campaign’s first ads, set to launch this Monday, SwipeSolve It, and The Facts highlight the historic climate investments in the Inflation Reduction act, including reducing carbon pollution by 40% by 2030, creating over a million good paying clean energy jobs, and corporations paying their fair share. The largest climate investment ever in America’s history.

It will cut toxic pollution by 40%…

Young people and communities of color overwhelmingly support climate action and are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. According to polling conducted by Data for Progress in partnership with Climate Power, over 70% of young people support the climate provisions in the IRA. An EPA report released last year found that Black and Hispanic populations face the most severe impacts of the climate crisis.
