CLIMATE POWER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: WILLOW PROJECT IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH PRESIDENT’S CLIMATE GOALS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to today’s long-awaited decision on the Willow project, Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes released the following statement:

“The Willow project is completely incompatible with the Biden administration’s climate goals and the historic climate accomplishments we’ve made. It’s dirty and dangerous. It will further pad the profits of oil and gas CEOs, and double down on costly fossil fuels at a time when we need to speed up our clean energy transition. Just last month, the oil and gas industry reached an astounding $400 billion in annual profits for 2022, with ConocoPhillips alone raking in a record $19 billion.

“Poll after poll shows that the American people demand bold climate and clean energy action from their elected leaders. The politics of climate have changed, and the way we allow oil and gas companies like ConocoPhillips to profit at the expense of our air, water, lands, public health and shared climate future needs to change, too.”
