CLIMATE POWER STATEMENT ON AGREEMENT TO EMPLOY AMERICAN WORKERS ON OFFSHORE WIND FARMS

Washington, D.C. – In response to today’s signing ceremony between North America’s Building Trades Unions and Norwegian offshore wind company Ørsted on the agreement to employ American labor on its offshore wind farm, Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:

“Today’s agreement is a win-win-win for American workers and their families. Investing in clean energy solutions like this offshore wind project will create good-paying union jobs that will help workers thrive while reducing our country’s dependence on volatile and exploitative fossil fuel companies and aligning with the climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. The Biden administration knows that climate action means jobs and is working to ensure workers are at the heart of these steps towards a clean energy future. The rapidly-growing offshore wind sector is a historic opportunity for good-paying, exciting union jobs for workers from all education and vocational backgrounds.”

“This agreement is a sign of what is possible if Congress comes together to make the investments needed to spur more clean energy jobs. In doing so, we have the opportunity to turbocharge our economy, building a clean energy workforce while reducing the emissions polluting our communities. We have the workforce and resources to become a world leader in the clean energy sector, but the window for action is quickly closing. Congress must act now to make sure the clean energy revolution is made in America.”
