Climate Power Statement on the Domestic Terror Attack in Buffalo and its Connection to Eco-fascism

As President Biden traveled to Buffalo, New York today to meet with the Black community that was targeted in a white supremacist terror attack, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes released a statement on the connection of the shootings to eco-fascism.

“A terrorist shattered a peaceful weekend for a majority Black community in East Buffalo. We mourn Roberta Drury, Margus Morrison, Andre Mackneil, Aaron Salter Jr., Geraldine Talley, Celestine Chaney, Heyward Patterson, Katherine Massey, Pearl Young and Ruth Whitfield. We keep their loved ones in our hearts.

“This attack was fueled by white supremacist, antisemitic, and eco-fascist ideology. Eco-fascism is not new. Instead of blaming the real perpetrators of the climate crisis, eco-fascists blame communities of color and immigrants who have borne the brunt of environmental injustice. We must forcefully confront the lies and disinformation that fuel such hatred and xenophobia – and take on major polluters like the fossil fuel industry who continue to profit off of polluting Black and Brown communities. True justice requires bold action that puts racial justice and equity at its core.
