WASHINGTON, D.C. – Since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act one year ago, over 170,600 clean energy jobs across 44 states have moved forward, totaling $278 billion in new investments – and political support for the legislation and action on climate change only grows. To celebrate the anniversary, Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes released the following statement:
“President Biden’s landmark climate and clean energy plan is one of the most successful pieces of legislation in history. In just a year since its passage, manufacturing has come back to the U.S., the economy is booming, costs are coming down and we’re reducing pollution. Because we’re investing in America again, already companies have announced over 170,600 clean energy jobs in small towns and big cities all across the country. President Biden and Democrats’ clean energy plan is delivering for America — it’s growing our economy and strengthening our middle class.
“This summer has been marked by dangerous weather disasters from orange skies on the east coast to droughts in the midwest and now devastating wildfires in Hawaii. Climate change is here and it’s impacting our communities today. A majority of voters, including Republicans, now say that climate change is a kitchen table issue. MAGA Republicans’ only plan is to end all action on climate change – making extreme weather worse, raising energy costs, and killing the clean energy manufacturing boom and the jobs that come with it.”
Even though Republicans are dead set on killing our clean energy boom cold, most of the clean energy projects and growth in the past year have occurred in congressional districts represented by Republicans. Thus far, 152 clean energy projects in 92 Republican held districts have moved forward with 96,216 new jobs, totaling over $224.8 billion in investments.
