STATEMENT ON RESTORATION OF KEY PROTECTIONS, CLIMATE SAFEGUARDS

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the Biden administration published a final rule restoring vital protections and climate safeguards under the National Environmental Policy Act. These decades-old protections had been gutted under the Trump administration. In response, Climate Power deputy executive director Claire Moser issued the following statement:

“As we look toward Earth Day, our nation’s most bedrock environmental laws are under attack from Big Oil and their allies, even as the need for climate action is more urgent than ever before. Today’s rule is a critical step to ensure that the climate and environmental impacts of projects are fully considered before they are approved, increase transparency and public input for communities that have suffered from decades of environmental injustice, and build more resilient infrastructure projects. This is a win for the climate crisis and the public health of all families.”
