GOP Governing Trifecta Must Protect America’s Clean Energy Boom

Washington, D.C. — In response to Republicans maintaining control of the House, securing a governing trifecta in Washington, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes released the following statement:
“Republicans have experienced firsthand how the Inflation Reduction Act has transformed their communities. Since the passage of this historic investment, more than 330,000 clean energy jobs have been created, and the majority of those jobs are in districts and states represented by Republican members. Thanks to the clean energy tax credits, businesses now have the security they need to create a manufacturing boom that is revitalizing communities long forgotten, costs are coming down, and American families can choose cheaper, cleaner energy options. Our clean energy boom is here to stay, and Republicans must do everything they can to protect it.”
Clean energy is booming across the country:
- Since the passage of the clean energy plan, more than 330,000 clean energy jobs have been created, totaling $372 billion in investments. A majority of these jobs and investments—more than 190,700 clean energy jobs and $286 million in investments—are in GOP-held congressional districts.
- The clean energy plan has created more than 149,000 good-paying jobs in states represented by Republican senators—and sparked over $142 billion in investments in those states.
- 75 Republican members of Congress have celebrated $187 billion of new investments in their districts that have created 70,535 jobs.
- Rep. Garbarino, who is co-chair of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, noted that 14 of the 18 Republicans who signed a letter demanding that the GOP House caucus preserve the clean energy tax credits won re-election.
- Across party lines, 71% of likely voters nationwide support clean energy investments, and a significant majority of Americans support creating new jobs by hiring thousands of Americans to work on projects in clean energy, conservation, and climate resilience.
