Harris-Walz Ticket Will Champion Climate and Hold Big Oil Accountable

Washington, D.C. — Today, Vice President Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Together, they’ll take on Donald Trump and JD Vance, two extreme climate deniers whose Project 2025 agenda would eliminate historic climate progress and over 300,000 clean energy jobs created by the Biden-Harris administration. Governor Walz will join career-long climate champion Harris in moving climate progress forward. Climate Power Executive Director, Lori Lodes, released the following statement:
”Vice President Kamala Harris has championed climate progress and put the health and well-being of hardworking people over Big Oil and corporate polluters her entire career. Today, she’s again putting people first by selecting Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, who has an extraordinary record of driving progress in Minnesota and delivering meaningful change for hardworking families.
“Voters will have a clear choice between a Harris-Walz ticket, who will fight for our clean energy future that lowers harmful pollution and creates safer communities, or a Trump-Vance administration whose pro-polluter, extreme MAGA agenda will give Big Oil a free pass to profiteer and pollute.”
Here’s Governor Walz’s record on climate and clean energy:
- ACCELERATING OUR CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY, LOWERING COSTS: Governor Walz has championed Minnesota’s clean energy industry, which has received $1.15 billion in investment, creating nearly 2,000 new jobs since the passage of the clean energy plan. Walz signed legislation to streamline the permitting process for renewable energy projects and required Minnesota utilities to move to 100% clean energy generation by 2040. Walz has also funded clean energy career training to prepare Minnesotans for the growing clean energy economy.
- LOWERING POLLUTION: Governor Walz’s “One Minnesota Plan” provided a framework for the state to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, and backed a climate action plan to slash carbon pollution by 50%. Walz fought to make Minnesota the first Midwestern state with strong clean air protections that limit pollution from cars and trucks. Walz also signed legislation to reduce pollutants in transportation fuels by 100 percent by 2050.
- PROTECTING CLEAN AIR AND WATER: Governor Walz called for a $200 million investment in clean water and wastewater in his 2022 budget, signed legislation investing $240 million in lead pipe replacements, and secured $200 million in federal investments to tackle air pollution.
