House Republicans Vote to Repeal Clean Energy Investments, Killing Jobs and Affordable Energy

House GOP votes to gut 400,000 jobs, more than $400 billion in investment, and raise energy costs. The legislation now heads to the Senate.

WASHINGTON — In a move that jeopardizes hundreds of thousands of jobs and raises costs for Latino families, House Republicans passed legislation this morning that effectively repeals billions in clean energy tax credits that have helped create countless jobs and incentivized billions in private-sector investments.

This will put more than 400,000 new manufacturing jobs at risk, increase energy bills, and undermine U.S. energy independence. Despite previously supporting clean energy investments, dozens of House Republicans reversed course, choosing loyalty to Donald Trump over protecting affordable energy and good-paying jobs for their constituents. The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to face steep opposition from lawmakers who have already raised concerns about its economic and environmental impact.

Antonieta Cadiz, Deputy Executive Director of Climate Power En Acción, released the following statement in response:

“This vote is a slap in the face to our families. This bill eliminates jobs, cuts economic growth and weakens access to cleaner air for our communities. All to favor the wealthiest and the big polluters who have poisoned our families for decades.

“For us, chronic diseases associated with pollution are not a story of the past, they are a daily reality. Every day, climate disasters become more intense, taking lives and wrecking our homes. And that won’t change – it will get worse – if we eliminate hard-won gains to expand access to clean energy. That’s exactly what this vote does: it puts us at greater risk.”
