ICYMI: Despite Receiving Nearly $500K from Elon Musk’s PAC, Ciscomani Falls Behind as Election Day Approaches

PHOENIX — In 2024, Trump and Republicans promised to lower energy costs, but after almost two years of being in office, Republicans like Juan Ciscomani have actually done the opposite. Rising energy costs are a top issue for voters and with Election Day a week away, there is more evidence that this is turning out to be an energy election.

The Arizona Daily Star reported this weekend that the nonpartisan Cook Political Report has moved Arizona’s 6th Congressional District from “Toss-Up” to “Lean Democratic,” a clear sign that Southern Arizona voters want someone in Congress who will fight to lower their costs, not someone who represents a party that doubles down on oil and gas, big tech, and dirty data centers to enrich themselves and their donors.

This shift comes even as outside money pours into Arizona. According to FEC data, Elon Musk’s America PAC has spent nearly $500,000 in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District to boost Ciscomani this year. But all of Musk’s money can’t hide the fact that Arizona families’ costs keep skyrocketing. Affordability has been the top concern for Southern Arizona voters all cycle long. Since February, gas prices in Arizona have jumped 34% to $4.46 a gallon, adding about $310 to families’ fuel costs in just the first half of 2026.

Diali Avila, Climate Power Arizona State Director released the following statement:

“This shift tells you exactly what voters in Arizona care about most. While a data center trillionaire swoops in to save Ciscomani, every conversation with Arizona families comes back to the same thing: the cost of groceries, gas, rent, health care and keeping the lights on. The candidate who has spent this race talking about lowering those costs is the one gaining ground. 2026 is the energy election because Republicans blocked cheaper, faster, clean energy, launched an unpopular war, and gave tax credits to data centers polluting our communities and spiking electricity costs. Democrats like Mendoza have a plan and they will win next week running on it.”
