Latino Voter Poll of Trump’s First 100 Days Shows Strong Opposition to Clean Energy Cuts

The poll showed strong Latino concern about the economy and opposition to cutting federal aid programs focused on clean energy and climate change

WASHINGTON—As we near the 100-day mark of the Trump administration, Climate Power En Acción, UnidosUS, Voces Unidas, and LULAC released a bipartisan poll highlighting Latino voter sentiment today. The survey revealed that Latinos continue to express deep concerns about the economy and overwhelmingly oppose cuts to federal programs focused on clean energy and climate change. Voters also largely hold President Trump responsible for the country’s current direction and the rising cost of living.

The poll revealed that Latinos are deeply concerned about the economy, including the cost of living, housing, and healthcare affordability. On the economy, 54% of Latino respondents said it is worse compared to last year; 60% believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, and 70% hold President Trump and his administration responsible. Latinos strongly oppose proposed cuts to federal aid programs focused on clean energy and climate change.

“Economic concerns are still very top of mind for Latinos, and climate change is viewed as an economic issue,” said Antonieta Cadiz, Deputy Executive Director of Climate Power En Acción. “Latinos consistently support legislation that protects communities from climate disasters, lowers energy costs, and invests in clean energy because we’ve seen the benefits firsthand. Often on the frontlines of extreme weather and pollution, Latinos recognize when clean energy policies reduce harmful emissions, improve air and water quality, cut energy bills, and create good-paying jobs.”

Latinos’ top concern remains the economy.

The poll found broad disapproval among Latino voters of proposed cuts to key programs:

The poll also found that 66% of Latino voters believe Trump’s tariffs will raise prices and reduce economic opportunity. Trump’s disapproval rating stood at 63%, and 60% disapproved of the Republican Congress.

The poll surveyed 1,002 registered Latino voters between April 11 and April 19, drawing large samples from California, Florida, Texas, Arizona and Colorado.
