More Than One Month Into Trump’s War of Choice, Republicans Keep Lying About Pain at the Pump

Experts agree it will take months for prices at the pump to return to pre-war levels, even if the conflict ends

Americans were already paying more for energy as Trump and Republicans gut clean energy supply across the country, spiking utility bills by as much as 13%

Washington, DC – Trump and Republicans have desperately tried to claim that higher prices are a short-term effect of Trump’s war in Iran, but after 48 days and no end in sight, the American people aren’t buying it. Even if the war ends tomorrow, analysts have warned that it will take months for prices to go back down, with the impact possibly lasting through 2027.

While Americans spend tens of billions of dollars more at the pump, oil and gas companies are raking in billion-dollar profits and new reporting showed that some of them didn’t even pay taxes last year. A “short-term” increase in gas prices may not hurt Trump’s billionaire buddies, but for everyone else, it could mean choosing between filling up your tank and putting food on the table. And with inflation tripling in the last month as Trump’s war kickstarts a global energy crisis, Trump and Republicans are once again making promises they can’t keep.

Donald Trump: “I don’t have any concern about [gas prices]. They’ll drop very rapidly when this is over, and if they rise, they rise, but this is far more important than having gasoline price go up a little bit. And they haven’t risen very much.”

Donald Trump: “Short term oil prices, which will drop rapidly when the destruction of the Iran nuclear threat is over, is a very small price to pay for U.S.A., and World, Safety and Peace. ONLY FOOLS WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY!President DJT”

Karoline Leavitt: “”We understand. We hear you. We see you. We are fully tracking this short-term fluctuation in oil and in diesel prices.”

Representative Chuck Edwards (NC-11): “I believe there’s a lot of emotion built into energy prices… I would look for things to settle down very soon.”

Representative Scott Perry (PA-10): “[Higher gas prices are] the price of freedom. This is the price of security. It’s not going to last forever.

Representative Scott Perry (PA-10): “Americans want this thing wrapped up and they want to move on with their lives and they want oil prices and gasoline prices to go back to where they were immediately. And unfortunately, that’s just not kind of the reality.”

Senator Rick Scott (FL): “Is there a short term hurt by gas prices being up? Absolutely. And it hurts everybody, including mostly the poorest families.”

Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler: ““This is a short term, necessary exercise to achieve the objective of long-term stability and lower prices than we probably ever had.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent: ““The message is the short-term volatility for long-term gain”
