Washington, DC – For months, Trump administration officials have downplayed and distorted the economic consequences of their war in Iran, even as American families face rising gas prices and growing economic uncertainty. But voters aren’t buying the spin: Trump’s economic approval ratings have fallen to new lows as consumers continue to feel the strain at the pump and across the economy.
That’s why Climate Power is launching a new tracker rounding up the countless times Trump administration officials tried to wave away gas price spikes, shrug off higher costs for families, or pretend Americans weren’t feeling the pain. Because apparently, the administration believes if you go on TV enough times insisting everything is fine, people will forget what they’re paying at the pump.
REMINDER: The national average price of gas is sitting above $4.50 per gallon, the highest price in years. And no state is safe, the price for a gallon of gasoline has now surpassed $4 in all 50 states, squeezing the wallets of consumers nationwide. Diesel prices have also been sitting above $5 for weeks, and some states have even seen new record-high diesel prices thanks to Trump’s war.
