RNC FACT CHECK: The Truth About the Misinformation You’re Hearing about EVs at Big Oil’s Convention
tags
WASHINGTON, D.C. – At the Grand Oil Party’s convention in Milwaukee, Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers spread misinformation about EVs – which is no surprise since the RNC is bought and paid for by Big Oil. Don’t buy the lies – President Biden is working to make sure Americans have access to cleaner, cheaper energy choices, including electric vehicles and hybrids. Trump is trying to stop cleaner energy so his Big Oil donors can continue gouging us at the pump.
FACT: There is no gas car ban. But don’t just take our word for it.
- NEW YORK TIMES: “The rule does not mandate sales of electric vehicles, and consumers can still buy and drive gas-powered cars.”
- POLITIFACT: “A fuel trade group is running ads in battleground election states that claim, ‘EPA regulators just banned most new gas-powered cars.’ …We rate the claim False.”
- FACTCHECK.ORG: “The proposals to reduce tailpipe emissions and raise the fuel efficiency standards of cars and trucks would not ‘ban’ the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles, as a trade group for fuel makers falsely suggests in an ad campaign.”
FACT: Mike Rogers has taken more than $400,000 from Big Oil.
FACT: American consumers have already saved more than $1 billion on EVs thanks to tax credits in President Biden’s clean energy plan. Many EVs are now cheaper than gas cars, saving drivers thousands on fuel and maintenance.
FACT: Thanks to President Biden’s clean energy plan, over 300,000 jobs have been announced across the country. Michigan is a clean energy leader, with over 21,000 jobs in the state, and thousands in the EV sector.
FACT: UAW has endorsed President Biden for his pro-union agenda and has worked closely with him to implement his policies on EVs and hybrids to ensure they benefit American workers.
FACT: Unions and auto companies support President Biden’s clean energy investments, only Republicans, Big Oil, and China oppose them.
FACT: EV sales in the U.S. grew by 11.3% year over year in the second quarter of 2024, reaching a record high.
FACT: As the head of the largest U.S. automakers’ trade association has said, “the future is electric.” That future will either continue being built here in America by our workforce or ceded to China by Donald Trump.
FACT: The U.S. auto industry lost more than 86,000 jobs under Donald Trump, including 10,000 jobs that were outsourced to other countries.
