The State of the Union is More Expensive and Less Safe Thanks to Trump’s Reckless Policies

From skyrocketing energy costs to dirtier air and water, Americans are paying the price for Trump’s disastrous agenda

Climate Power slammed Trump for skyrocketing costs with a six-figure ad buy focused on affordability

Washington, DC – As Donald Trump prepares to give his State of the Union address, he has made life more expensive for American families while helping his billionaire donors get richer. Americans are struggling with soaring costs on everything from utility bills to health care, but instead of addressing the issue, Trump is taking a victory lap around the country with an “affordability tour.” Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress cosigned his cost-raising agenda, even though they knew it would make life more expensive for their own constituents. 

• Utility Costs: Electricity prices have increased by up to 13% in communities nationwide, with the average U.S. household paying $116 more on its electricity bills in 2025 than it did in 2024.

• Clean Energy: Trump’s reckless energy policies have canceled or delayed enough projects to power more than 14 million homes, taking energy options off the grid as demand skyrockets. 

• Jobs: According to Climate Power’s February Energy Crisis Snapshot, nearly 173,000 clean energy jobs have been lost, put on the chopping block, or delayed since Trump took office. 

• Pollution: Trump gutted 31 pollution protections, forfeiting $275 billion in annual savings and up to 30,000 preventable deaths per year. Earlier this month, the Trump administration took the most pro-pollution action in modern history by rolling back the endangerment finding – the legal foundation that allowed the EPA to limit climate pollution.

• Disaster Relief: Trump’s administration has gutted disaster relief, and in combination with his tariffs, home insurance costs have been projected to rise nearly 40% faster.
