Trump’s America Last Presidency Continues Hurting American Consumers

Trump admin officials have made it clear that American consumers are “the last of their concerns” as gas prices continue to spike

Washington, DC – Nationwide gas prices — along with the cost of diesel and jet fuel — continue to skyrocket, costing the American people hundreds of millions of dollars per day. In the face of this forced struggle, the Trump administration has demonstrated that they are fine with American communities bearing the exorbitant costs of Trump’s war of choice. Just last week, JD Vance made it clear that gas prices are “where they are today” because of Trump, and in an unsurprisingly crude morning interview, NEC Director Kevin Hassett today argued that American consumers are “the last of their concerns.”

Trump himself seemed to celebrate the windfall that these high prices were bringing for his oil industry friends, saying “The United States is the largest oil producer in the world, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money.” All the while, countries like China and Pakistan have invested in clean energy that has helped shield their citizens from the costlier byproducts of Trump’s war. When you look at the impacts of Trump’s war on clean energy, paired with his war of choice in Iran, it is apparent that he and his big oil and gas buddies are happy to reap billions in profits while making sure the American people are left footing the bill. So let’s take a look at the timeline:

FIRST: Donald Trump launched his war on clean energy, which has canceled or delayed 363 clean energy projects, stalled more than $61.41 billion in clean energy investment, and resulted in the loss or delay of 174,869 clean energy jobs

THEN: Electricity prices spiked by up to 13% in communities nationwide, with the average U.S. household paying $116 more on its electricity bills in 2025 than it did in 2024.

THEN: Trump launched his war of choice in Iran, spiking gas prices to over $3.80 per gallon, a more than $0.80 increase from last month, at the same time spiking diesel prices by $1.21 per gallon, the largest 14-day increase EVER

SO: Trump stripped Americans of our energy choices and our ability to remain resilient in the face of oil and gas volatility, as part of his war on clean energy and left the American people to front the costs while paying at the pump or on their monthly utility bills. All while lining the pockets of his big oil and gas donors to the tune of more than $60 billion

THE KICKER: Other countries were investing in clean energy to help make them less vulnerable to oil shocks and less dependent on the volatile oil and gas markets.
