Trump’s EPA Rolls Back Climate Protections, Further Endangering Latino Communities

Repeal of power plant pollution limits threatens public health, worsens climate impacts, and deepens environmental injustice for Latinos across the U.S.

WASHINGTON — Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency has moved to repeal one of the most consequential climate protections aimed at limiting carbon pollution from power plants, marking a significant escalation in President Trump’s efforts to dismantle federal climate policy. The decision comes as the administration doubles down on its pro-fossil fuel agenda and signals it has no plans to replace the rule with new emissions safeguards.

Antonieta Cádiz, Deputy Executive Director of Climate Power En Acción, released the following statement in response:

“The Trump administration’s decision to repeal federal limits on power plant climate pollution is a direct assault on the health, safety, and future of Latino communities. Power plants are major sources of greenhouse gases and toxic pollutants—contaminants that disproportionately affect communities of color, especially Latino families who are more likely to live near these facilities. Rolling back these protections means more children developing asthma, more elders suffering respiratory illnesses, and more families enduring climate disasters such as extreme heat and wildfires. This kind of decision reveals the true priorities of this administration—and it’s not the health of our children or the well-being of our families. By dismantling this rule and rejecting clean energy efforts, the administration continues to prioritize fossil fuel profits over public health. This reckless gutting of climate and environmental safety nets leaves American families to bear the consequences.”
