Trump Dodges Climate Question, While President Biden Touts Accomplishments

Washington, D.C. – During tonight’s presidential debate, Donald Trump was asked if he would take action to address the climate crisis – and refused to answer. When pushed again, he lied about his record. There was only one climate champion on stage tonight, President Biden. Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes released the following statement in response:

“Tonight, Donald Trump ignored the climate crisis—even after being asked for his position repeatedly. He said abortion bans have “been a great thing.” He defended the Jan. 6 insurrectionists. He refused to say he’d accept the results of the 2024 election. He’s running because he wants to punish his enemies and protect himself. And he’ll say literally anything—and do the bidding of anyone who he thinks might help him—to get one more stab at power.

“We know the records of each of these men, and we know who they are. As president, Joe Biden has already created more than 300,000 good-paying, clean energy jobs, spurred hundreds of billions of dollars in private sector investments, revitalizing American manufacturing and rebuilding communities—all while lowering families’ energy costs.

“As president, Donald Trump eliminated over 125 environmental protections and allowed polluters to release dangerous chemicals into our air and water. If elected to a second term, he’s promised to end investments in clean energy and let his Big Oil donors pollute with free rein.

“There is only one choice: Joe Biden is on the side of the American people.”
